WPL 2024 – DC Bowler Arundhati Reddy Fined for Breaching WPL Code of Conduct

The emerging Delhi Capitals bowler Arundhati Reddy fined for breaching WPL code of conduct. The fine relates to using language, actions, or gestures that demean or may incite aggression from a batter upon her dismissal in a match. This is called a Level 1 offense under Article 2.5 of the league’s Code of Conduct. Despite this, DC managed to win the match by nine wickets.

Arundhati Reddy, who plays for India and Delhi Capitals, got fined for not following the rules during a match against UP Warriorz. She broke a Level 1 rule mentioned in the Women’s Premier League Code of Conduct. This rule is about saying or doing things that could make a batter angry when they get out during a match.

Shafali Verma and Meg Lanning both played pretty well, scoring more than fifty runs each, and Marizanne Kapp bowled exceptionally well in the beginning. These performances helped Delhi easily win the match against UP Warriorz by nine wickets. Shafali scored 64 runs not out in 43 balls with 6 fours and 4 sixes, while Lanning made 51 runs in 43 balls with 6 fours. They batted so impressively that they reached the target in just 14.3 overs.

Arundhati Reddy bowled exceptionally, showing an impressive performance. In one spell, she bowled 3 overs, gave away 16 runs, and took 1 wicket, breaking the partnership between Poonam Khemnar and Shweta Sehrawat. This was crucial for her team. In another match against Mumbai Indians, she bowled 4 overs, gave away 27 runs, and took 2 wickets, dismissing Yastika Bhatia and Nat Sciver-Brunt, who were playing well. Reddy’s bowling has been consistently good in the Women’s Premier League.

On Monday, Kapp bowled exceptionally well and played a crucial role in winning the match. She bowled 4 overs, gave away only 5 runs, and took 3 wickets. Her victims included UP Warriorz captain Alyssa Healy, Vrinda Dinesh (who got out without scoring any runs), and Tahlia McGrath. Another standout performance came from Radha Yadav, who bowled 4 overs, conceded 20 runs, and picked up 4 wickets. She dismissed the dangerous Grace Harris, Shweta Sehrawat, Kiran Navgire, and Sophie Ecclestone. Their efforts were instrumental in securing the victory.

Shafali got a lucky break when she was dropped on 48 by Navgire after a shot off Deepti Sharma. After that, both Shafali and Lanning started attacking the UP bowlers right from the beginning. Shafali, the Indian star, hit a six by blasting a shot over long-on against left-arm spinner Gouhar Sultana. She continued her aggressive play, taking on McGrath as well.

Shafali started by hitting the Aussie bowler for a powerful four through mid-wicket. Then, she confidently swatted the ball over the bowler’s head for a six, showing complete disregard for the bowler’s efforts. She quickly reached her half-century with a massive six off the off-spinner Deepti, sending the ball sailing over mid-wicket.

Looking ahead, Delhi Capitals will be facing the Royal Challengers Bangalore on February 29 in their next match.
